Suspended Kano Anti-graft agency chairman threatens legal action against doctor

Date:

The suspended Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has given the medical Consultant attending to his ill health 24 hours to authenticate the medical documents given him and reply the Kano State House of Assembly or risk litigation.

Rimingado issued the ultimatum in a letter addressed to Dr Bayo Ayodele, dated July 23, 2021, in which he stated that the medical Consultant would face prosecution for endangering his life, following a report from the hospital that the medical report he presented to the State House of Assembly, was fake.

S. O. Emekedo Esq of Adesina Oke and Associates chamber signed the copy of the letter obtained by the Punch in Kano on Friday. The letter was also copied to the National Hospital, Abuja. (See attached)

A short video clip showing Dr Bayo taking Rimingado’s blood sample was also released to buttress his claim of illness. (See attached)

Recall that Rimingado was expected to appear before the Assembly ad-hoc committee investigating a petition against him on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, but tendered medical reports over his ill health.

According to the medical report submitted to the Assembly by his Lawyer, Barr. Umar Fari, “Our brief further reveals that a letter with reference No. KNHA/CON/007 dated the 12th of July was dumped in our client’s residence while our client was away on a medical appointment at National Hospital Abuja on the said 12th of July late in the evening.

“Copies of both the letter and medical records are herewith enclosed for ease of reference.”

It was gathered that the Assembly later wrote to the National Hospital to authenticate the medical reports submitted.

However, in a reply dated July 19, 2021, with reference number NHA/CMAC/GC/0117/2021/V.I/01 and signed by the Director, Clinical Services, Dr A.A. Umar, the National Hospital said it investigated the documents and discovered that they were forged.

“Following your request on the above, and the subsequent investigations, we wish to state the following findings:

“There is no patient named Muhuyi Magaji in our hospital record and no folder was opened in that name.

“That by our records, the name and signature of doctor (Dr. Bayo) on the Medical Report do not belong to any staff of the National Hospital Abuja.

“Laboratory investigations in the National Hospital are no longer manually written on paper but electronically transmitted.”

In the letter, the hospital added, “In the light of the above, Sir, the Medical Report/documents, which you attached its photocopies are NOT authentic.’’

The response from the National Hospital was said to had jolted Rimingado because the medical doctor (Dr Bayo) has been the physician treating him all along even with the medical records he took to Egypt in May for further treatment.

“Muhuyi is already contemplating instituting legal action against the physician for endangering his life.

‘’You see most politically exposed people have doctors that treat them privately but mostly work in government hospitals, for them not to go through the rigours’ of the government hospitals.

‘’So the doctor will explain to the court how he came about the medical records and test results.

‘’Right now as I speak to you, Muhuyi is even scared that the doctor has placed his life at risk with the treatment accorded him all this while,” the source said.

The source added that the doctor should also explained who forged the hospital documents.

Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered that the Kano State House of Assembly has yet to respond to the three-point demands earlier made by the embattled chairman.

Interalia, Rimingado’s counsel had requested the legislature to provide them with the following documents to enable him reply to the allegations levelled against him appropriately.

He listed the documents as a Certified true copy of the petition allegedly written against our client, certified true copy of the House Resolution/extract of the Proceedings of July 5, 2021, in respect of the allegations against our client and certified true of Press Releases issued by the House of Assembly on July 5 and 7, 2021, announcing the suspension of our client and addressing him as former Chairman of the KNPCACC.
