Kano Assembly gives Ganduje 48 hours to sack revenur board’s chairman

Date:

The Kano State House of Assembly has given Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje 48 hours to remove the Chairman of the State Revenue Board, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Salihi over alleged breach of protocols and disrespect to the legislative arm of government.

Speaker of the House, Honorable Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari made the disclosure yesterday during the House plenary.

The speaker, who frowned at the nonchalant attitude of the chairman, said the lawmakers would not tolerate any attitude that will cripple government efforts in discharging its responsibilities.

Daily Telescope recalled that Salihi, who was said to have been summoned by the house to give details of the revenue collected by the board, failed to appear before it despite series of reminders.

The chairman was also accused of bypassing the house to send his report directly to the State Bureau of Land for onward conveyance to the state governor, an action the house considered as violation of protocol.

The man was also accused of conniving with the government without the notice of the House to reduce ground tenement rates of the Independent Petroleum Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) from N250 to N100 which the house described as violation of the nation’s constitution.

In their separate remarks on the floor of the House, the legislative members were furious with what they described as the non-performance of the chairman in revenue collection and ignorance revenue collection job.

Chidari said the house has agreed to set up an eight-man committee that would investigate why Kano falls from second position in revenue collections after Lagos to now10th position.

The chairman who was visibly shivering before the House and could not provide enough reasons why he chose to bypass the House on issues of revenue collection in the state including his unilateral reduction of ground tenement rates.

The eight-man committee to investigate the falling revenue collection in the state and illegal actions of the chairman was headed by the House Finance Chairman, Magaji Dahiru Zarewa.

Recall that the House had on Monday summoned the embattled Revenue board chairman to appear before it to answer some questions.
