A lecturer at the English Department of Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto, Professor Bello Bada has commended the federal government for launching offensive attacks on bandits in northern region, saying the approach is long-overdue.
Speaking in a Hausa programme ‘Kasar Mu A Yau’ aired by Garkuwa FM Sokoto, Professor Bada said the approach is what many people have been yelling for years back.
He explained that the approach is yielding results in the ongoing fight against banditry especially in Zamfara, one of the banditry prone states
The university Don lamented that although the decision was taken after many lives were lost, however is yielding positive result.
“We have lost over 400,000 lives to the banditry, but with new approach, we have witnessed the successes so far recorded in Zamfara state after adopting the new approach against banditry.
“Had it been the new approach is applied earlier than now, it would have been a different story. This is what people have been calling for, years back, however, it is not late since it is yielding good results.
“Although, citizens in some states are facing difficulties with regards to communication due to shutting down of GSM networks, however, I am appealing to them to be patience as the strategy adopted is for their own good.
“I am calling on the security agencies including police, army, DSS, civil defense to intensify efforts to end the banditry in the trouble areas.”
Professor Bada added that government should also not allow suspension of GSM network to stay longer, as according to him such will impact negatively on the socio-economic of the affected states, thereby making life difficult for citizens.
