Lawyer, Correctional service debunk Sheikh Abduljabbar’s bleeding rumors

Date:

The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command has debunked rumors going round that Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara is bleeding at the correctional center where is being kept as awaiting trial inmate.

Consequently, Counsel to Sheikh Kabara, Barrister Rabi’u Shu’aibu Abdullahi has expelled the story, saying the cleric has neither poisoned nor bleeding at the correctional center.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Correctional Service, DSC Musbahu Kofar Nassarawa reads in parts “The attention of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano state Command, has been drawn to a malicious and false report in public domain that Kano-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, who is in our custody, is seriously ill.

“The service wishes to inform the public that the said Sheikh, as well as other inmates of custodial centers in the state are hale and hearty. The Service prioritizes the medical and health welfare of all inmates.”

Speaking to Daily Telescope on phone, Barrister Abdullahi said “I visited the Sheikh at Kano Correctional Service this morning and he is not bleeding as claimed in the story. Although, the cleric is sick but he is receiving enough medical attention from the officials of the correctional service.

“It is not being fair to the official service for someone to concoct such a fake story and release it to public without adequate checks. I can confirm to you that the Sheikh is having minor sickness but that is being taken care adequately by the service officials. His sickness is not critical as claimed in the story.

“I want use this medium to clear the air that, nobody poisoned Sheikh Abduljabbar and he is not bleeding. We are not blaming anybody for Sheikh’s health condition. He is human, he can fall sick at any time like any other person. I have seen him this morning and I can confirm to you that he is not bleeding.

“I want call on the general public to disregard the story attributed to one Barrister Yakubu Abdullahi who claimed to be counsel to Sheikh Abduljabbar. We disowned both the story and the self-acclaimed lawyer. The lawyer is on his own, he did not spoke on behalf of the Sheikh. I am the only lawyer speaking on behalf of Sheikh Abduljabbar.”

Daily Telescope checks at the Kurmawa Correctional Service Centre, indicated that Sheikh Abduljabbar is being fed by his family not the service officials.

An official at the center, confided in Daily Telescope that “As an awaiting trial inmate, Sheikh Abduljabbar has the privilege of receiving food and drinks from his house. In other words, he has the right to be provided with food and drinks from his house.

“And I can assure you since he was brought here, the scholar is receiving his three-square meals from his house. The service is not feeding the Sheikh. So, the issue of poisoning him does not even arise.”
