Students of Sokoto State University have called on their lecturers to urgently call off their solidarity strike with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to save the state’s education system from collapse.
They complained that the strike has had very negative impact on the economy, education, security and all other sectors of human endeavours in the country.

“Here in Sokoto State, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has made several pronouncements on why the Sokoto State University chapter of the Union should see reason and return back to classes, as his government has no labour dispute with ASUU,” Garba said.
“Sokoto State Government has approved salaries and allowances for all categories of employees, not only for the State University, but for all tertiary institutions in the state.

“We therefore see no justification for the Sokoto State University ASUU branch to continue with the strike in solidarity with the ASUU national body,” Garba said.
The students union leader lamented the grave socio-economic impacts the seven-month strike has had on the society, which include worsening insecurity, increased drug addiction and frustration among students due to idleness.
