Police arrest popular TikToker Fati Cele over death of boyfriend

Date:

The Police in Kano have arrested and detained a popular TikTok personality, Fati Cele, following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her residence in circumstances that are currently under investigation.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna who confirmed the arrest of the suspect via WhatsApp message on Saturday, declined further comment.

“Yes, it’s true the TikToker is currently being detained over the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye,” he said.

Fati Cele, a native of Borno State, resides in a rented apartment in the Danbare area of Kano and commands a sizable following on TikTok, where she has more than 32,000 followers.

A close associate of the deceased who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that the TikTok star emerged from her house shouting that there was a fire, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene.

“When people entered the house, they found Isma’il with burn injuries and traces of blood on his body,” the source claimed, adding that efforts were made to save him by rushing him to Nassarawa Hospital.

The source further disclosed that officers attached to the Dorayi Babba Police Division subsequently took Cele into custody as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Friends of the deceased and acquaintances of the TikTok personality told reporters in Kano that the lovebirds had experienced relationship difficulties in the past and had reportedly separated before reconciling recently.

Makaye, a cosmetics trader who lived in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was later buried at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his remains were released for funeral rites, according to family associates.
