The Managing Director of Kano Road Traffic Agency, Faisal Kabir, has expressed concern over the increasing incidents of confrontation between the agency’s personnel and some members of the Nigerian Army during routine traffic enforcement operations across Kano State.
This is contained in a statement on Saturday by the Agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sharada, on behalf of the Managing Director.
According to the statement, KAROTA personnel are legally mandated to regulate traffic, enforce road safety measures and ensure compliance with traffic laws for the safety and convenience of all road users.
“The agency has observed with concern that some military personnel often refuse to comply with traffic regulations and lawful directives issued by KAROTA officers while performing their statutory duties,” it said.
The Managing Director noted that while KAROTA maintains profound respect for the Nigerian Army and appreciates its vital role in safeguarding the nation’s security, compliance with traffic laws remains the responsibility of every citizen and institution without exception.
He further stated that the recurring incidents of confrontations have created unnecessary tension between both institutions and have negatively affected efforts aimed at maintaining order and safety on Kano roads.
Consequently, the KAROTA MD, Faisal Mahmud Kabir called on the Kano State Government, military authorities and other relevant stakeholders to intervene and facilitate dialogue that will strengthen cooperation, mutual respect and understanding between KAROTA and the Nigerian Army.
He emphasized that enhanced inter-agency collaboration and adherence to established regulations would go a long way in preventing future misunderstandings and promoting efficient service delivery.
The MD reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and constructive engagement with all security agencies in the discharge of its responsibilities to the people of Kano State.
Effort to contact the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Capt. Zubairu Babatunde, failed as he neither responded to the several phone calls from The Punch nor replied to the WhatsApp message sent to him.
