The operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command have apprehended five suspected phone snatchers in the state.
A statement on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSC, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in Sabon Gari area of Fagge Local Government in the metropolitan of the state.

” The suspects namely: Faisal Usman, m, 28 years, Mansur Isa,m, 38 years, Abdullahi Bashir,m, 25 years, Ahmed Ibrahim,m, 21 years as well as Zulkifil Bello,m, 25 years. They used to operate and engage in the dastardly act around Sabon gari, Fagge Local government area where they steal and snatch handsets belonging to innocent people.
“Men of the Corps intelligence and investigation department are on the trail of their accomplices (Mr Sunday and Abdullahi) whom they used to sell the phones and Sim cards to”, the statement said.
The command also restated its commitment to sustain the fight against any form of criminality in the state.

“The NSCDC Kano command wishes to reiterate its stance in sustaining the fight against phone snatching, crimes and criminality as well as protection of critical national assets and infrastructure.”
Recently the menace of phone snatching in the Kano metropolitan area has become a daily phenomenon that has led to killing of innocent citizens as the suspects operate with dangerous weapons in connivance with some commercial tricycle operators in the city.
Even yesterday, (Tuesday) some angry residents had to set ablaze a tricycle in which two suspected phone snatchers were alleged to have snatched a phone from a passenger while the suspects were beaten to a state of coma.
It was gathered that the quick intervention of policemen saved the hoodlums from being killed by the angry residents.

Following the resurfacing of the ugly trend, the outgoing administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje recently reduced the operation hours of the tricycle operators from 6am to 10pm instead of the 24h hours.
This, has not helped matters or the situation as the hoodlums have continued to perpetrate the act even in broad day light.
