The MTN Foundation has commissioned seven renovated and upgraded laboratories at the Government Day Science Secondary School, Gombe, to boost technological advancement among schoolchildren.
The donated laboratories are two each for chemistry, biology, and physics as well as one laboratory for agricultural science.

Speaking at the event, the MTN’s Senior Manager Sales and Trade Development, Hamza Ibrahim, said the project, under the MTN Foundation’s Science and Technology Laboratory Project, aimed to enhance science education in public secondary schools in Nigeria.
He added that the project focuses on renovating and equipping science laboratories, providing training for teachers and laboratory attendants, and enhancing teaching and learning experience in key science subjects.
According to him, in the third phase, six schools with 28 laboratories were renovated across six states in the country between 2023 and 2024.

“In phases one and two, the laboratories for the three science subjects; Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, were remodelled and renovated. For the third phase, the agricultural science laboratory is also included.
“In addition to that, the Foundation is renovating Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Agricultural Science laboratories in six public secondary schools across six states of the country,” Ibrahim said
He also revealed that in the past three years, the MTN foundation has invested over N2 billion in renovating 102 science laboratories in 32 secondary schools across 15 states in the country.

The state’s Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Abdullahi Bappa Ahmed, commended the foundation for the laboratories, saying they would provide a significant boost to state government efforts to improve the quality of education.
He stated that a partnership between the state and the MTN will help to promote science and technology in the state, in line with the administration’s commitment to revamp education.
