The Chairman of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado,
has solicited support of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Kano State Command in tackling illicit drugs trafficking.
The plea was contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Rimin-Gado made the request on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps headquarters as part of the committee’s familiarization tour.
“The delegation is at the command to familiarize itself with key security stakeholders and seek stronger collaboration in the fight against drug abuse , illicit trafficking and thuggery in the state,” Rimin-Gado was quoted as saying.
He noted that many of the prevailing security challenges confronting society are linked, directly or indirectly, to drug abuse, stressing that addressing the menace requires a collective and coordinated approach by relevant agencies.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to the NSCDC for its support and cooperation with the committee, while calling for sustained collaboration to tackle drug abuse and its associated social vices like thuggery particularly among youths.
Responding, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Kano State command, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, assured the committee of the Corps’ continued support and cooperation.
“The fight against drug abuse, thuggery and other forms of criminality is a collective responsibility that requires the commitment of government agencies, communities and other stakeholders,” Agalama said.
He assured the delegation that the doors of the NSCDC Kano State Command remain open 24/7 for collaboration and partnership with the task force, adding that the command would explore the best possible ways of deploying additional personnel to support the activities of the committee as requested by the chairman.
The Commandant further commended the initiative of the task force, noting that a united and coordinated approach among security and relevant government agencies would contribute significantly to addressing drug abuse and improving public safety in Kano State.
He pledged the Corps’ continued commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property, combating criminality and promoting peace and security across the state.
