The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the business of downloading and distributing movies through mobile phones across the state as part of efforts to promote moral values and uphold Islamic principles.
The Deputy Commander General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen confirmed the ban via a WhatsApp message on Thursday.

“The Hisbah board has banned downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state,” he said.
He said the ban followed a series of complaints over allegations that some operators of the business were circulating phonographic films and video content which are contrary to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of the people of the state.

According to him, anyone caught violating the order would be arrested and prosecuted as Hisbah operatives have been deployed to monitor compliance.
“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state.
“Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State,” the Deputy Commander said.

He advised those operating such businesses to embrace other lawful means of livelihood, stressing that the measure is aimed at safeguarding the moral upbringing of youths and curbing the spread of content capable of undermining societal values.
The Deputy Commander attributed the current moral decadence among the youth to watching indecent films and videos.
