Jigawa PDP expels owned gubernatorial candidate

From Yahaya Idris, Dutse

The People’s Democratic party (PDP) in Jigawa state has expelled its gubernatorial candidate in the 2015 and 2019 governorship elections, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim.

The Chairman of the PDP state’s Working Committee, Alhaji Babandi Ibrahim Gumel announced this at PDP state secretariat in Dutse today shortly after the committee’s meeting.

Gumel said the decision was based on the recommendations made by a disciplinary committee setup by the party to investigate the allegations of anti-party activities levied against the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

He said prior to Ringim’s expulsion, the party’s leadership at Ringim ward where he hails from had suspended.

“After, we received a letter of expulsion from Ringim ward, we then instituted a disciplinary panel to investigate and the committee made its recommendations to the party for further necessary actions. The panel did its best and come up with its recommendations which we now implemented.

“Provisions of the party’s constitution were duly followed before Malam Aminu Ringim was dismissed from the party by the state working committee,” he said.

Reacting to the development, the expelled gubernatorial candidate, Malam Aminu Ringim said his expulsion was done in nullity, insisting that the decision could not hold any water as the party lacks the merit to take such decision.

Ringim said the present set of executives of PDP in Jigawa were illegally constituted, hence lacks the merit to invite or take decisive decision on any member of the party.

He said: “Everyone is a living witness that no elections were held to produce the present set of people who called themselves party executives and that was why I did not honor the invitation they sent to me.

“I will not give credence to a group that formed a coalition and called themselves as PDP executives. I have made my stance clear, I will not recognise the illegally constituted executives until the right thing is done by our party,” he concluded.
