Group Petitions Kano Gov Over Plans To Confiscate Plots Of Land At Sharada

Date:

A group under the aegis of Committee of Corner Shop Owners at Federal Housing Estate, Sharada, Kano State has petitioned Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over plans by some people allegedly posing as staff of the Federal Housing Authority in Kano to confiscate their plot of lands allocated to them by the FHA.

The petition dated 12th April, 2024 a copy of which was made available to our reporter on Monday, was signed by the committee’s chairman and Secretary, Alhaji Sani Maikusa and Alhaji Hafiz Mato respectively.

The group lamented that despite a valid and subsisting Court order restraining all the defendants from forceful taking over of their land, some shameless greedy persons have been duping unsuspecting buyers by reselling the same land to them in addition to engaging some questionable elements to redraw new beacons on their land.

The petition titled, “Complaint against an attempt to cause communal disturbances, forceful and fraudulent occupation of our plots of land and disobedience to a lawful court order by a group of fraudsters and thieves posing as staff of Federal Housing Authority, was copied to the Chief Judge of Kano State, Commissioner of Police Kano State. Director, DSS Kano Command and Zonal Office, North-West Zone, Federal Housing Authority, Kano.

“It is sad that despite a valid and subsisting order of the Kano High Court by Hon. Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar in suit No. K/137/2023 restraining all the
Defendants (Hon. Minister of Works & Housing, Federal Housing Authority, Bureau for Land Management, KANGIS, KNUPDA, Architect Suleiman, Unknown Persons) from forceful taking over of our land, some shameless greedy persons have been duping unsuspecting buyers by reselling the same land to them and have engaged some questionable elements to redraw new beacons on our land.

“We, the undersigned, are holders of title to various plots/ parcels of land designated as corner-shops and granted by the Federal Housing Authority at Sharada Federal Housing Estate, Kano State and have remained in uninterrupted possession for over 20 years without any adverse claim by a third party or parties.

“Our various documents of title are still pending, valid and subsisting for 60 years
and 99 years as the case may be, having paid all the initial processing fees and
consequently awaiting the regularization and presentation to us of the approved building plan/permit to commence development, ” the petitioners said.

According to the group, some greedy Nigerians singled out the corner shops in Kano for confiscation due to greed and their desperation to covet their titles even though they have made various payments but some bad eggs in the FHA have failed, neglected or refused to do the needful despite all demands and entreaties and as of recent, attempts are being made to deprive us of our titles and re-grant title documents to political allies.

“The arrowhead of this dastardly move is the 6th Defendant in the suit one
Architect Sulaiman who was said to be an In-law to Ex- Governor Ganduje and was working out plans to revoke our land and re-grant the same to Mrs. Hafsat Ganduje, his mother in-law and her cronies to build a mega shopping mall.

“We are calling on the God-fearing, conscientious men and women leading our
state as stakeholders to stop this dangerous experiment which is being perpetrated in Kano allegedly by the new management of FHA on tribal and religious grounds while leaving the land in other states in Nigeria intact.

“We hereby attach the CTC of the Court order and the necessary court papers filed
by FHA and the Hon. Minister of Works through their lawyers showing the
pendency of this case,” the petitioners said.

They, however, called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and various stakeholders to stop those “bad Nigerians” from stealing their constitutionally protected rights.
