Malam Muhammad Hussain, who spoke to Daily Telescope on the issue, said the decision would have short and long-term effects on students, parents, society and education in general.
He said “It is unfortunate that few months after our children returned to their respective schools, government has announced closure of schools for the second time.
“For the students, they are now worried about the future of their education. They are not certain how long it will take them to return to schools. They have spent months at home during the first closure and only God knows when are they going to resume.
“This time around the closure of schools is not only for fear of Corona virus but for the spite of insecurity. The recent abduction of secondary schools’ students in Kankara local government of Katsina state has instill fears in the minds of not only parents but those in
the corridors of power.

“Government and parents are so much concerned about the safety of the schools’ children.”
Another parent, Yakubu Muhammad, said although the closure of the schools would have negative effect on education, however, it is better to save the lives of the children than to allow them to stay in the schools without adequate protection.
Muhammad said: “Already the northern part of the country is lagging behind in terms of education and the persistent closure of schools will certainly be worsening the situation.
“So, I believe if government can provide an avenue where our children can be receiving lessons through the other means, that would have been better for us. Anything short of this, education will continue to witness a set-back not only in Kano but in the north as a whole.”

Ahmad said that the parents and the government must put their heads together to salvage the future of the children, lamenting that “we have all witnessed how the first closure of schools contributed to the rates of crimes in the state.
“Many children have engaged themselves in various crimes and social vices such as drug addiction. So, government and the parent should do something to prevent reoccurrence of such incidences this time around.”
