BUK, L&Z sign MoU on provision of veterinary field stations, other services

Bayero University, Kano has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Kano-based leading agricultural produce giant, L & Z integrated Farms Limited with a view to boosting teaching and research.

The two parties will work together in providing of veterinary field stations, ambulatory services and other practical training.

The agreement is part of the requirement for the accreditation of the the University’ s newly established Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Speaking after the signing of the MoU on Monday, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, said it was overwhelming to enter into collaboration with a reputable company in the class of L & Z which has been known for quality products.

He said the reproductive laboratory shall serve as as a platform for the provision of the reproductive disease diagonis services by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and L&Z to the neighbouring Fulani communities and other small holder farmers.

The Vice Chancellor was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Professor Sani Muhammad Gumel said the university has taken the issue of collaboration and networking very dearly.

He said such action will go a long way in development of the university by way of ensuring standards and quality.

“Without collaboration and partnerships Universities cannot grow. It is pleasant for us today, as we signed this agreement between us and L & Z Farms Limited for the development of our young Faculty of Veterinary. Our desire is to make this Faculty one of the best in this part of the world,” said the DVC.

In his remarks, the acting Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Abdussamad Muhammad Abdussamad, said the facilities and services to be rendered by the L & Z Farms would go a long way towards ensuring accreditation for the new programme as well as exposing the students to the practical aspect of their studies.

The chairman, L & Z Integrated Farms, Muhammad Abubakar said the company would do everything possible to ensure the success of the project.

Abubakar noted that the collaboration was to expose the students to practical aspects in their studies which would have a great impact on their career.

He explained that combining theory with practicals is what makes students to excel in their studies.
