Breaking: EFCC seals ‘Kwankwaso’s property’ in Kano

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), has marked  a property allegedly belonging to the former Kano state Governor, Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso for investigation.

The building, Daily Telescope learnt is the hospital complex which Senator Kwankwaso donated to the state government to serve as an isolation centre during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.

The source, who craved for anonymity because he was authorised to speak to press, confided in Daily Telescope that operatives of the anti-graft agency listed the multi- billion Naira property among many properties allegedly acquired illegally by the former governor.

The source further hinted that the operation was sequel to a petition of misappropriation of funds by some concerned indigenes of Kano, who claimed that Kwankwaso had diverted some public funds while he was governor.

Daily Telescope recalled that former governor was under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over an allegation of diversion of local government funds amounting to N3.08billion.

The money according to the petitioners, was allegedly used by Kwankwaso to fund his presidential campaign in 2015.

The source added that there are some petitions against the former governor before the EFCC over alleged corrupt practices and abuse of office.

“One of such petitions dated May 27, 2015 , was sgned by one Barrister Mustapha Danjuma and co. on behalf of Engineer Abubakar Maisha’ani and Alhaji Najumai Garba Kobo.

“The petitioners allegedly that Senator Kwankwaso has collected a sum of N70m from each of the 44 local government areas of Kano and funded his presidential campaign in 2015,” said the EFCC source.

The EFCC, Daily Telescope learnt, also, marked the an complex building belonging to a prominent senior lawyer in the state, Barrister Sa’idu Tudun-Wada lalong Ahmadu Bello way, Kano.

Operatives of the commission were said to have  evacuated the occupants from their offices and sealed the building during the operation that took place in the late evening of Thursday, an eyewitness accounts, revealed.

Efforts to reach the former governor, senator Kwankwaso to comment on the development proved abortive, however, Barrister Sa’idu Tudun-Wada confirmed sealing of his property by the EFCC operatives.

Barrister Tudun-Wada confirmed that the commission has marked his two buildings along  Ahmadu Bello way in the metropolis, forcing occupants of the buildings to vacate their offices..

‘’Honestly, I have never in my life witnessed such embarrassment with what happened today in my office. I was in the office when the EFCC operatives came to my office this evening, marked my office complex and the adjourning building belonging to me. And asked everybody to leave the building immediately.

“I have never been involved in any corruption or shady deal, hence I am so surprised with this action. The worst part of the whole issue was that I was neither be accused nor invited by the commission of any wrongdoing .’’

The legal practitioner, however, promised to seek legal redress in order to handle the situation properly.
