Bandits infiltration: Kano communities lament persistent attacks, kidnappings

Date:

Shanono, Bagwai, and Tsanyawa Local Governments Areas of Kano State, have continued to face serious bandits infiltration and attacks with so many people being Kidnapped and others killed, despite the deployment of heavy armed security personnel.

The chairman of Faruruwa Security Committee, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri made the remarks while meeting with the representatives of the affected communities in Kano on Sunday.

“It is unfortunate to note that in less than a week the communities experienced several bandits attacks around the three Local Government Areas.

“The situation has become even more serious after the drafting of the security personnel with several people taken away, while just yesterday (Saturday) somebody was slaughtered at his house and his children were kidnapped,” he said.

Bagobiri lamented that so many residents have fled their homes while some of those staying outside the communities cannot dare go in to visit their families.

“This is how serious the situation is, but indeed we welcome the deployment of armed Military, Police and Civil Defense, but they need to be strategic because the bandits are using several means to infiltrate our communities”, he said.

Bagobiri strongly appealed to both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State to come to their rescue, saying if something is not urgently done there would be serious consequences.

He said, “what the bandits are trying to do is to take over Shanono, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, Gwarzo and Bichi, after which they would completely encircle Kano with their attacks”.

Also speaking, the District Head of Faruruwa in Shanono Local Government, Mustapha Abubakar, said in the last three days so many people were killed and several girls and young boys were kidnapped in his areas.

“Just Yesterday (Saturday), at Yancibi and Kadami three people were slaughtered and others taken away, and you can imagine these attacks were done on a broad day light”.

He said the bandits infiltrated their areas from Katsina State who have signed a peace accord with them that whatever they carried they can go smoothly through Katsina Local areas unhindered.

The District Head, urged the Military to deploy another strategy by taking over all the bushes in the areas and linkage roads which the hoodlums use to come through, “we understand that yesterday attacks were carried out by the criminals who trekked into our communities bypassing the security personnel”.

The Kano State House of Assembly had last Wednesday urged the State Government to urgently address the escalating insecurity in Tsanyawa and Bagwai Local Government Areas of the state.

The plea followed a joint motion of urgent public importance sponsored by members representing Shanono/Bagwai, Ghari, and Tsanyawa constituencies during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore.

Recall that following the persistent bandits attacks in the three local government areas, the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf had recently directed the 44 local government chairmen to conduct regular security meeting to strengthen early warnings and intelligence gathering.

Effort to contact the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna to comment on the issue, proved abortive as his line was not going through.
