Teenager arrested in Jigawa over rape of minor

A 19-year-old Emeka Ugwunaze has been arrested in Birnin Kudu local government area of Jigawa state by the operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.

A statement issued by the NSCDC’s spokesman, Adamu Shehu, indicated that the arrest followed complaints by the victim’s mother who reported the case to NSCDC on September 28, 2021.

The statement revealed that the victim’s mother reported that she sent her six-year old daughter to buy a drug and came back complaining of pain on her private part.

“The mother of the six-year old girl of the same address reported that she sent her daughter to buy drug (Ciprofloxacin) from the suspect’s shop only for the girl to return home crying and complaining of pain on her private part and upon inquiry the girl told her mother that Emma took her to his shop, removed her panties and had canal knowledge of her forcefully.

“She cried for help when she felt the pain but there was no one to her rescue, and afterwards the suspect gave her biscuits and warned her not to tell anyone about the encounter,” the statement revealed.

The statement stated that the victim was rushed to the Sexual Assault Referral Center, (SARC) at the General Hospital, Dutse for immediate medical attention.

“Medical report indicates evidence of sexual penetration as there is stretching of hymen, bruises and blood on the perineum, including Antibiotics and analgesics were administered.’

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” said the statement.

The NSCDC spokesman promised that the suspect would be charge to court as soon as investigation is finished.
