Zamfara PDP Decries Indiscriminate Arrest Of Members

Date:

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Zamfara State Chapter, has decried  indiscriminate arrest of its members in the state by security agents.

Addressing a press conference in Gusau, the Acting Chairman of the party in the State, Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga, said the rampant arrest of PDP members in the state by security men is politically motivated.

Lugga alleged that  the state government in collaboration with some security agencies are arresting their members  and detaining them in correctional centers in the state for political reasons.

He recalled that, recently, the PDP senatorial candidate of Zamfara central, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis was arrested and arraigned before a court on the allegation of destruction of APC billboards in the state.

The acting chairman lamented that stringent conditions were placed for Bilbis’s bail despite his position in the society.

Bilbis was a former Minister of National Communication Commission and  State Mininster for information under President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Lugga further recalled that Ambassador Mairiga Muhammad had been in prison for over a month all in an attempt to demoralized PDP in the state in addition to several party supporters who were also assaulted by the APC-led government in collaboration with security agencies.

“Democracy is being threatened in Zamfara by the action of the state government in collaboration with some security agencies,” he alleged.

The Acting PDP chairman, therefore, called on the Inspector General of police, Director General of Department of Security Services, Commandant General of Civil Defence Corps to call their men to order as they are working with the state government to deny the PDP its political right to interact with the electorate freely.

Luggah also appealed to President Muhammad Buhari, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all relevant stakeholders including international communities to as a matter of urgency interven and save democracy, lamenting that “democracy is currently under threat in Zamfara state.”

According to him, PDP is a law abiding party and appealed to the party  supporters to remain calm and law abiding as the leadership is doing everything possible to address  the situations.
