Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has declared Friday as a public holiday.
This is contained in a statement issued by Malam Muhammad Bello, special adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor.

“This extension is to allow citizens of the state to maximize the holiday for Sallah celebration. The governor has appealed to the people of the state to utilize the extension to pray vigorously for the peace, stability and progress in the state and the country.

“There is no doubt, peace in all spheres of life in the state and beyond, in the face of security challenges, cannot be avoided or over-emphasized. As such all citizens of the state should take deep introspection and not relent in offering supplications for divine intervention to overcome the disturbing trends of banditry, kidnappings and violence across the Northern States and the country at large.
“For this reasons, the state governor extended the public holiday period so that all citizens can pray for the country,” the statement stated.
