Soldiers kill 220 bandits, rescue 642 kidnap victims

The Nigerian Army says it has neutralised 220 bandits, rescued 642 kidnapped victims and destroyed 197 bandits’ camps from June to  December, 2020.
Nigerian Army Operations Media Coordinator, Colonel Aminu Ilyasu, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on behalf of the Acting Director Defence, Media Operations, Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko at Faskari Super Camp Four, on Wednesday.
Iliyasu also said they had foiled 167 banditry and 81 kidnapping attempts, and recovered 73 AK 47 rifles, 194 Dane guns and 53,200 ammunition within the seven months period.
Also recovered, according to Iliyasu were 7,761 cows and 1,876 sheep, adding that, 335 suspected bandits, 326 illegal miners, 147 bandits informants and collaborators, 14 bandits arms suppliers, 24 rustled cattle marketers and 46 bandits logistics suppliers had been arrested.
He noted that the troops of Operation SAHEL SANITY had within the period carried out series of ambushes, clearance operations and other aggressive patrols on the fringes of Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto Kebbi, Kaduna and Niger states
He said the significant improvements in security is evident by the massive return of socioeconomic activities in the Northwest region with little or no threat to lives and property.
