The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima has commissioned 150 vehicles in Sokoto state for mass transit and security patrol.
Seventy of the vehicles are for mass transit scheme while 80 vans are to be distributed among different security agencies in the state.

Commissioning the vehicles at Giginya Stadium, the vice president said while the mass transit scheme will alleviate transportation hardships, the vans will help security agencies in fighting banditry in the state.
Shettima reassured people of the state of more palliatives from the federal government to alleviate the effects of the subsidy removal.
Earlier, the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto said the state government purchased 140 vehicles at N11.8bn, while the management of Bua Cement donated 10 Hilux Vans to the state government.

Governor Aliyu said 20 vehicles that will operate within the city of Sokoto will carry only women, while the remaining 40 are for inter and intra states services.
He said 80 Hilux and Buffalo Vans are to be shared among police, army, DSS and Civil Defense and other security agencies with view to improving their services in the state.
Meanwhile, the governors said the state government has also distributed foodstuff worth N5.6bn to the poor and vulnerable people in the state in order to alleviate their sufferings.

He said the food items distributed to the less privileged include rice, maize and millet.
The vice president also commissioned a multi-billion naira Flyover that was completed by the present administration.
