No fewer than seven classrooms were destroyed following a fire incident that gutted Young Marshall Science Academy, a private School at Rijiyar Zaki, Kwanar Yankifi in Kano metropolis on Sunday.
The fire which started at about 13:53 hours on Sunday had also destroyed three shops and two vehicles

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi confirmed the incident in a statement he released on Monday.
“Kano State Fire Service on Sunday 20th April, 2025, at about 13:53 hrs, the main control room of the agency received an emergency call from Hamza Muhammad, informing the control room the issue of fire outbreak at Rijiyar Zaki Kwanar Yan Kifi.
“The crew on duty from the headquarter, Rijiyar Zaki and Bompai fire station were mobilised to the scene of incident, on their arrival they found that, a building of ground floor of about 100 x 50ft use as a multi business, three shops in front of the building, three vehicles, Seven classes, one office and two toilet caught fire.
He said the incident started when dropped gas cylinders from a J5 vehicle with unidentified registration number to the sales shop, and two vehicles was parked around the place were affected by the fire.

“There and then the fire spread to one private school popularly known as Young Marshall Science Academy where Seven classes of the school were damaged by the fire.
“Therefore, only one shop is used by the Gas vendor and the remaining two are used for another purpose.
“Meanwhile three shops, two vehicles and seven classes well alight while one vehicle slightly alight.
He said even though there was no report of injury or loss of life, the fire was successfully contained to the only affected shops and classes, while the remaining shops, classes and one vehicle were saved during the rescue operation.

“With God’s intervention and our men, the fire was successfully contained to the only affected shops and classes; the remaining shops, classes and one vehicle were saved during the operation,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that investigation is currently in progress to ascertain the cause of the fire incident.
