Scores were said to have sustained injuries while many houses and shops were also destroyed following a gas cylinder explosion in Babura local government area of Jigawa state on Monday night.
CSC Adamu Shehu, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday morning.

He said the incident occurred when a vehicle (truck) laden with a filled gas cylinder exploded in Babura LGA, Jigawa State.
He said following the incident, many houses and shops were burnt, adding that scores were injured, but no death recorded yet.

“The tragedy occurred yesterday night, Monday, 12th September, 2022 at about 2100hrs,” he said in the statement.
The NSCDC Spokesman explained that the victims were currently receiving medical attention at General Hospital Babura.

“Fire fighters were deployed from Hadejia Local Government Area to quench the fire.”
He said the circumstances leading to the explosion were still sketchy, noting that details will be made available in due course.
