Politicians Should Blame Themselves Over Nigerian Political Mess, Says Senator Kawu Sumaila

Date:

Senator Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, says politicians should blame no one but themselves over the present political mess Nigeria find itself.

Senator Sumaila, who was reacting to the recent political developments in the country, said politicians are to be blamed for all the political turmoil being experienced in the country.

The former senior special assistant to the former President, Muhammadu Buhari on Assembly Matters, said politicians are responsible for breaking all the laid down rules and regulations for conducting free and fair elections in order to favour themselves.

Sumaila, who is representing Kano central in the Red Chamber, asked: “Who are responsible for breaking the laid down laws for elections, the judges or the politicians? We, the politicians do everything within our power during the primary elections to ensure that our candidates emerge flag bearers of our parties.

“During campaign, we mobilise youths and go out with heavy weapons and do everything including breaking laws and orders to ensure our victory at the poll, but we do not blame ourselves, rather the judges.

“We will also compel INEC to do our bindings because we are the ones appointed its leadership. On election days, politicians will ensure that their loyalists make the list of the Ad-hoc staff for conducting election in order to favour their candidates.

“Are the judges responsible for signing of our ballot papers? Of all these things that are happening under our watch, yet , we are not thinking of the hereafter. We are not thinking that Allah is watching over us.

“We are not mindful that the judges are equally watching us and they know we are laying, the general public also know we are not sincere and above all, we, the politicians know we are laying and we are not sincere. Then why should we complain about judges? We should be bold enough to tell the truth to ourselves.

Senator Sumaila further blamed supporters of politicians, saying “our supporters also know very well that right from the primary election, majority of candidates were wrongly chosen, lamenting that “the politicians will bring candidates that majority of people didn’t want but we will break all the rules and ensure our candidates emerge the flag bearers.

“Again, after our candidates have been defeated in the secondary poll, we will go to Court to challenge the victory of their opponents. Then, who is responsible for imposing candidates, the judges or politicians? Do we think these judges are not aware of how we conduct local government elections in our states? We will override elections rules and regulations and went to hotel rooms and write the names of our candidates as winners of the election. Do we think the judges don’t know all these? Are we not given them rooms to do whatever they want when it comes to their turn?”
