Police storm Muhuyi Magaji’s house, fire several gunshots

Date:

Police in Kano on Sunday night laid siege to the residence of a suspended chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

It was gathered that the police stationed their vehicles near his Yahaya Gusau Road residence, and laid ambush on him around 7pm.

Residents of the area confirmed the siege to DAILY NIGERIAN, an online newspaper, saying they heard gunshots while the police were trying to arrest Rimingado.

“We heard sounds of gunshots and we saw the security agents around the house. Later around 9:30 pm, we heard sound of screeching tyres as they chased a vehicle that came out of the house,” said Mr Rimingado’s neighbour who pleaded anonymity.

It is however unclear whether the police arrested him during the raid or not.

When contacted, the Spokesman for Kano police, SP Abdullahi Haruna said he was not briefed about the incident, but promised to find out the situation.

Recall that on March 1, 2022, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano dismissed an ex parte application filed by Rimingado, seeking to stop an investigative panel instituted by Kano State House of Assembly and restrain the police from investigating, arresting or intimidating him, pending the hearing and determination of subsisting court action instituted at state high court.

The Kano State House of Assembly had invited Rimingado to appear before its ad-hoc committee investigating a petition against him on July 14, 2021.

But Rigingado, while citing health grounds and attaching medical records to the letter, demanded a certified true copy of the petition the assembly received against him and requested for more time appear.

On July 19, 2021 the National Hospital wrote to the Kano State House of Assembly, saying the medical records he presented to the House were fake.

In its reply dated July 19, 2021 with reference number NHA/CMAC/GC/0117/2021/V.I/01 and signed by the director, Clinical Services, Dr. A.A. Umar, the National Hospital said it investigated the documents and discovered that they were forged.

Rimingado was suspended in July 2021 after opening probe on financial scandals and inflated contracts allegedly awarded to some companies linked to the Governor Ganduje’s family.
