Police arrest six suspects over Kano mobile phone market attack

The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects over the attack on the popular mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano metropolis on Monday.

The state police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori confirmed the arrest in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna on Tuesday.

“On 27th April 2026 at about 1320hrs, a distress call was received indicating that suspected ‘Yan Daba thugs had mobilised for a clash. Upon receipt, patrol teams were immediately deployed to the scene.

“On arrival, officers observed a violent clash between suspected thugs. In the process, an ambulance was vandalised, while attempts were made to attack other places.

He said, “The thugs were promptly confronted by the Police. However, they later regrouped and attacked Police officers with dangerous weapons and stones. The attack was professionally repelled by the operatives. The hoodlums then fled to Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot property”.

According to the statement, reinforcement was swiftly mobilised to the scene where the thugs were further dispersed and six suspects arrested.

“Calm and normalcy have since been restored to the affected areas,” the statement said.
The commissioner therefore advised parents and guardians to caution their wards fomenting trouble in Kano as anyone found in the act will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The police commissioner CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori sternly warns that the Command will not tolerate any form of thuggery, ‘Yan Daba activities, or disturbance of public peace in Kano State.

“Parents and guardians are advised to caution their wards, as anyone found fomenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the statement said.

“The CP commends the gallantry, restraint, and professionalism of the officers of Farm Centre Division and the reinforcement teams for their swift response that prevented further breakdown of law and order and loss of property.

He added that investigation into the incident is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and identify sponsors of the clash.

Recall that some youths suspected to be thugs on Monday launched an attack on the popular mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano metropolis, causing pandemonium among traders and customers.

The hoodlums were said to have stormed the market in broad daylight, assaulting people and wielding dangerous weapons to intimidate victims.
