Pandemonium in Kano as miscreants attack popular phone market

Date:

Some youths suspected to be thugs on Monday launched an attack on the popular mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano metropolis, causing pandemonium among traders and customers.

The hoodlums were said to have stormed the market in broad daylight, assaulting people and wielding sharp weapons to intimidate victims.

The incident was reported to have occurred around Yoyo Plaza, a section of the market known for phone trading activities.

It was gathered that the assailants, who were mostly youths, also seized mobile phones and other valuables from traders, customers, and passersby in the market.

An eyewitness told The Punch that the attackers were from a political gathering allegedly held near the market even although there was no official confirmation of this claim.

The quick intervention of armed policemen who were deployed to the market prevented the situation from degenerating into a full blown crisis as the attackers were dispersed immediately.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no confirmed information on fatalities, but several people were said to have sustained various degree of injuries during the attack.

Effort to contact the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna failed as he did not respond to several phone calls from our reporter.

Similarly, a text message sent to him has yet to be replied as of the time of filing this report.
