Many patients on admission at the Dala Orthopedic Hospital Kano, especially those from neighboring states have deserted the facility following the warning strike by the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives.
A staff of the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity told our Reporter on Thursday morning that the patients were allowed to go in order to seek medical attention elsewhere.

“As you know there are some patients who are not from Kano and as such they requested the hospital to discharge them so that they could seek medical care elsewhere.
“Most of the patients that left have the wherewithal to seek medical attention at private clinics while those who could not are still in the hospital,” he said.
According to him, the hospital management has been trying to attend to patients who could not leave because of their respective health conditions.

He, however, called on the Federal Government to intervene by meeting the demands of the nurses in order to save lives of patients who could not afford to attend private clinics in the county.
“The Federal Government needs to address the issue with the seriousness it deserves to stop the nurses from going into full blown strike after the warning strike,” he said.
Meanwhile, activities in the hospital have been paralyzed following the withdrawal of services by the nurses since the commencement of the warning strike.

As a result of the strike, the ever busy hospital has now become a shadow of itself while human and vehicle movement within the hospital have reduced drastically.
Effort to contact the chairman of the NANNM National Orthopedic Hospital Dala Kano branch, Abubakar Isa proved abortive as his mobile phone number was not going through.
