Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, says the withdrawal of policemen attached to the commission is a sign of corruption fighting back.

Addressing a press conference today in Kano, Barrister Rimin Gado said the Policemen attached to the commission always exhibit high level of professionalism in discharging the duties.

The Chairman, therefore, said the withdrawal of the policemen did not come to him as suprise, as according to him whoever is fighting corruption he/she should expect this to happen.

“If you are fighting corruption and you step on toes and you would not be forgiven. This shows the corruption is fighting back. It appears there are some people trying to stop the commission from discharging its work,” the chairman alleged.

The chairman commended the Nigeria police authorities for clarifying their position on the withdrawal which was hinged on personnel audit.

He, however, assured that said the development would distract the commission from discharging its duties as Anti-Corruption agency, saying “the recent development will rather strengthening the commission in the corruption crusade.

Rimin Gado, who stated that the commission will continue to learn from its past mistakes, stressed the need to amend the law establishing it to provide for specific roles to the police and  other law enforcement agents in the commission attached to the commission.

Police Clarifies Withdrawal Of Officers From Kano Anti-Corruption commission

Police authorities in Kano state have explained reasons behind recent withdrawal of Police officers from the State Anti-Corruption Commission.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said the development was sequel to routine Staff audit being carried out by the command.

“The Kano State Police Command had recalled Police Officers posted to Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), with a view to conducting Staff Audit aimed at ascertaining the exact number of Police Officers seconded to the Commission as well as to understand the reporting line and nature of duties each Police Officer is performing since their initial deployment to the Commission in the year 2015.

“The exercise was simply a response to series of reports received through the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU), portraying policemen attached to the Commission as being highhanded and deviating from the expected role of providing static guard and other duties at the Commission.”

The statement clarifies that “members of the public are to note that the object of the ongoing Staff Audit is basically to address the litany of complaints as reported by sections of the media.

“The action further became imperative, so as to correct the obvious anomalies in the operations of the Commission as Police Officers primarily deployed to static guards and other duties were being used to effect arrest and carry out investigation of cases which clearly is a deviation from their originally assigned mandate and must be corrected.

“In totality, the step is towards ensuring a better and effective service delivery by the policemen devoid of abuse of process in the interest of the people.

“It will be recalled that similar exercises were conducted in the past from the inception of the Commission in the year 2015 and the men were returned at the conclusion of such exercises.”

Meanwhile, it further revealed that the Inspector-General of Police has directed the immediate return of a number of Police Officers, providing guard at the Commission’s office, who have gone through the audit process to continue with their duties.

“It is nevertheless the position of the Command that should the Commission require more policemen for other duties than what has been expressly approved by the IGP, the Commission may apply to the IGP to grant further approvals for professional officers with specific training in fields such as investigations and prosecution to be appropriately seconded to it.

“Members of the public are thus enjoined to disregard the current perception being portrayed by a section of the the media, that aligned the objective to political witch-hunting, as the Police Command will ever remain professional and keep performing its statutory roles of protecting lives and property of all people according to the provisions of the extant laws of the country,” the statement concluded.

Kano Science Board Refutes Sales of 36 School Staff Quarters

0

The Executive Secretary, Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board, Prof. Dahiru Muhammad, has denied involvement of the board in the alleged sale of 36 staff quarters of Government Technical College, Tiga, in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.

The denial was coming on Thursday after some members of the Parent Teachers Association of the College, had accused the Executive Secretary and the board of an alleged unilateral sale of houses which were already under the owner-occupier arrangement.

Prof. Muhammad described the allegations as baseless, saying that there were no such transactions whatsoever.

“What exactly happened was that a former Commissioner of Education in the last administration was the one who sold houses belonging to the Science and Technical Schools Board, and not under the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“As at the time I assumed office there was nothing like selling any house, but I also know that there were some staff of the Government Technical College, Tiga, who took the Principal of the school to Court for allegedly selling houses and the Court found him guilty and was adequately prosecuted”.

The Executive Secretary also denied unduly removing and transferring some principals of schools on salary grade level 15 under the board and allegedly replaced them with his friends and cronies on level 12.

He explained that those removed from their positions were found to be unqualified as principals of Science or Technical Colleges because they lacked the basic Qualifications of Science and Technical subjects

“You can imagine somebody having Arabic or Hausa qualification deployed as a principal of a Science or Technical College, what do you think would happen; indeed that was why all the equipments for practical lessons for Science and Technical subjects are not being put to use over the years

“So, we redeployed this set of principals who don’t have the required qualifications and appointed qualified ones with Science and Technical background, and even at that, we have given them target upon which we want to see results,” he added.

The president of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said he is looking into the possibility of starting cement production in Gombe state, to serve the Northeast sub-region.

He disclosed this to newsmen at the weekend in Gombe, after a closed-door meeting with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House, Gombe

Our correspondent reports that Dangote was in Gombe for a wedding Fatiha of the daughter of the Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Limited, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga

He said, “We have had fruitful discussions on our investment plans with Governor Yahaya. In fact Gombe state should be one of the highest producers of cement in the country. It is one of the very lucrative areas for us in terms of cement production.

“The state has a location advantage, it is close to Borno state and other states in the Northeast zone, as well as Cameroon and so on. So if we produce 20 percent of what we need here, it will be about the cheapest instead of bringing them over here from other locations. So if we have the opportunity to do so we will definitely start production here,” Dangote said.

The Africa’s richest man explained that the significant reduction in diesel prices by his company from over N1600/Ltr to about 1,100/ Ltr, was a patriotic gesture that will effectively lower transportation costs and subsequently reduce food prices because of the widespread impact of diesel on everyday commodities.

Earlier, Governor Yahaya said Gombe is a prime destination for investment and economic prosperity, with a remarkable business-friendly environment, as well as its status as the best state in Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria.

He also emphasised Gombe’s abundance of solid mineral resources as well as the impressive infrastructure, including the sprawling 1000-hectare Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park situated near the 40-megawatt Dadinkowa power plant.

Yahaya highlighted the centrality of Gombe state in the Northeast sub-region, serving as a commercial nerve centre with a peaceful atmosphere, which he said has positioned the state as an attractive destination for investors seeking stability and growth opportunities.
