A chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Kano, Engr. Sabo Inuwa has described the purported moves by the Presidential candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party in the 2023 election, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso to joint APC as a positive development.
Inuwa, who made the remarks while speaking with newsmen in Kano on Thursday, said there was nothing wrong with the move as the 1999 Constitution allows for freedom of association and choice.
“This is presently in the realm of assumptions; however, where it turns out to be true, it should be viewed as a positive development given that our 1999 Constitution allows for freedom of association and choice.
“However, the issue needs wide evaluation and consultations. Whichever offer NNPP has in wanting to join APC, caution is the word here and should be gauged against actual needs of APC particularly at the National Assembly where it has a clear majority in both the Senate (59) & (168) in the lower chamber.
“As a grassroots mobilizer, my observations are hinged on potential crises that may engulf the APC, particularly in Kano and other states upcountry, where it is strongest, in the event of missteps, that can be costly and destabilizing to a new Asiwaju government,” he said.
He noted that there was widespread condemnation of any unilateral action taken to absorb NNPP in Kano or nationwide, given that the legacy parties that formed APC, were not only marginalized but brutalized and edged out of governance in the past 10 years.
“The outgoing governing new-pdp in Kano, realty dealt deadly blows to its members from CPC and the ACN that contributed much more than the new-pdp, because they had to surrender their party certificates of registrations and melt down, 100 percent. No party ever wins elections it goes into, factionalized and APC seems ready to implode as a word is enough for the wise,” APC chieftain said.
On electoral offenders, Engr. Inuwa called for what he described as “stiffer prison terms for those who smuggled unstamped ballots to the polling units on election day.and those found guilty of inciting violence during the election to serve as a deterrent to others
“Kano is a volatile place and examples ought to be set on electoral offenders. 25 years of capacity-building our democracy are a huge investment that must not be allowed to be frittered away by irresponsible chaps parading themselves as “leaders”,” he added.
