The Katsina state government has introduced Community Development Levy and Cattle Tax (Jangali) in the state.
Alhaji Faruk Jobe, commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, stated this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Weekly Executive Council meeting.

Jobe stated that the committee, earlier set up to fashion out modalities for payment of the taxes has submitted its report to the council.
He said after receiving the report, the council had resolved that each adult in the state including none indigene as well as civil servants male or female are to pay N2,000 as development levy annually.
He, however, said married women except working class, we excepted from paying the community development levy.

According to him for the cattle levy, (Jangali), every cow owner will pay N500 per each cow yearly, the matter will be presented to the state house of assembly for legislative process.
He explained that such levy has been in existence in the past, but for political reasons it was abolished in 1979,saying necessity has compelled government to reintroduce it.
“Government will take a biometric data of all adults in the state in order to know the figures of eligible tax payers in the state.
“The data will provide us with necessary information, address, business, and other relevant information about the tax payers,” he added.

Jobe said the same thing is applicable to the cattle owners, pointing out that the data will provide information about cows and where the owners lives.
According to him the exercise will help the state government in tackling insecurity particularly banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other related crimes in the state
