The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Ambassador Aminu Wali has elected a new set of officials to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years.

Daily Telescope reports that the elected officials who were chosen through a process of consensus were affirmed as leaders of the party on Thursday during a ceremony held at Kano Foundation in the city.

According to a list of the state executive committee obtained by Daily Telescope, a total of 40 members were elected to lead the Kano PDP.

Some of the elected officials are Mamina Bako Lamido (chairman), Hon. Kabiru Zarewa (deputy chairman), Ibrahim Muhammad Damisawa (deputy chairman, Kano central), Mukhtar Yahaya Deen (deputy chairman, Kano North), Ibrahim Ahmad Shagogo (deputy chairman, Kano south), Sabo Yusuf Albasu (secretary), Rabiu Muhammad Danyaro (treasurer) and Aminu Maiwada Fagge (publicity secretary).

Others are Hajiya Aisha Musa Tarauni (women leader), Barrister Isa Ahmed (Legal Adviser), Rabiu Sale Wangal (Auditor)  and Shamsu Tukur (Financial Secretary).

In an interview with journalists, the newly elected chairman of the party Mamina Bako Lamido said the consensus agreement that led to the emergence of the new Kano PDP leadership was due to the advise of the party’s elders.

“Whatsoever you call it, it is election or consensus is in accordance with the constitution of the party. Yes, its one person per position which is almost a consensus.

“We arrived at this due to the intervention of the elders of the party. So we are here to affirm what we have resolved yesterday (Wednesday,” he said.

Kwankwassiya a movement, not part of Kano PDP

Asked about a recent court judgement which recognized the Kwankwassiya led faction of the Kano PDP as the bonafide caretaker committee of the party, Mr Lamido said the ruling has been appealed.

“You say Kwankwassiya, to us Kwankwassiya is a movement and we are the party in Kano state. Everybody is aware that Kwankwaso defected back to PDP in 1998. Before his defection, we are the leaders of the PDP in Kano state.

“And up to now, there is no way you can take us out of party. And the moment he came into the party, chaos started. So he is acting on his group. And what we are doing here is for the party in Kano state,’ Mr Lamido said.

He added that the National Executive Committee (NEC) is aware that “we are the state executive committee of the party”

“We are doing this thing in the interest of the party in Kano state we are going to send the result of what we are doing here to the National Headquarters and we are sure the National Headquarters will affirm what we have done here,” he explained.

According to him, “The judgement delivered on the 9th of December, the court has dismissed the case but we have already appealed the case since Friday and we are sure that the Kwankwassiya group has been served with the appeal notice since on the 10 December,

“Our prayer is for the court to force the party to follow the rules that were laid in the guideline of the election which we are holding today because  by our understanding the party is not following the rules”.

Daily Telescope recalls that on December 9, 2020 the Federal high court sitting in Kano  threw out the suit filed by Aminu Wali led faction of PDP against the composition of the party leadership in the state.

The Wali faction of PDP had approached the court to declare the outcome of the party ward and state congresses null and void.

The faction equally claimed the composition of the party leadership was biased in favor of Mr Kwankwaso.

But in his ruling Justice Lewis Allegoa affirmed the caretaker leadership of the party under the control of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Justice Lewis Alloaga submitted that the Wali faction lacked the locus standi to challenge the party in court without exhausting all internal party mechanism.
