The Kano State Government has so far paid N27 billion out of the N48 billion unpaid gratuities and death benefits it inherited from the former Administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stated this while flagging-off payment of the fifth tranche of retirees’ gratuity and death benefits at the Coronation Hall, Government House Kano on Wednesday.

He said the state government had earmarked the sum of N5 billion for payment of the fifth tranche of the retirees’ gratuity and death benefits, noting that the government had so far paid N27 billion.
“With the payment of the fifth tranche of the retirees’ gratuity and death benefits, we have within the two years in office offset N27 billion out of the N48 billion inherited from the previous administration,” he said.
He said the gesture is part of his administration to bring succor to retirees and their families after suffering from prolonged delay in getting their entitlements after retirement.
He said his administration would continue to give priority to the welfare of the civil servants, especially pensioners who spent their substantial part of their life serving the state.

The Governor called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of what they collected and invest wisely in lawful businesses for more incomes to cater for their day to day needs and other necessities of life.
The Governor Yusuf used the occasion to announce the continuation of the monthly women’s empowerment which is expected to commence next week.
He said under the programme no fewer than 4,000 selected women from the 44 local government areas will receive N50,000 each to enable them start a business of their choice.
In his goodwill message, the former National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba appreciated Governor Yusuf for his commitment to better the lives of pensioners and provide succour to the families of deceased civil servants in the state.

He called on the retirees to reciprocate the gesture by ensuring his victory in the forthcoming governorship election in 2027.
