Jigawa Commissioner Suspended Over Misappropriation Of Ramadan Feeding Funds

Date:

The Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has suspended the Commissioner for Commerce, Alhaji Aminu Kanta over alleged misappropriation of Ramadan feeding funds.

The suspension, which is with immediate effect, followed the allegations of misappropriation of funds allocated for the Ramadan Iftar feeding programme in Babura local government area of the state.

This is contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Makam Bala Ibrahim and issued to newsmen on Friday in Dutse, the state capital.

According to the statement, the affected Commissioner would remain suspended pending the outcome of an investigative committee established by the Governor to probe the allegation.

“Governor Namadi’s action underscores his commitment to responsible financial management and tackling misuse of public funds,” the statement said.

Recall that the State Executive Council approved the release of N2.8 billion for the Ramadan Iftar feeding programme across the 27 local government areas of the state.

The total of 600 designated feeding centers were established with a minimum of two locations in each political ward.

Additionally, designated centers were established within higher institutions across the state. Each center provides daily meals for at least 300 people throughout the Ramadan period.
