The International Human Rights Commission Nigeria chapter, has urged the Federal Government, the Sultan of Sokoto, Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Governors, and traditional rulers to take immediate and decisive steps to end the ongoing Kano emir ship tussle.
The IHRC Country Director, Amb. Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu made the appeal in a statement on Monday and made available to newsmen in Kano.

According to the commission, the current situation in Kano poses significant risks to the stability and progress of the state, the region and the country as a whole.
“Prolonged disputes can lead to increased violence, economic downturns, and further social fragmentation, which will adversely affect millions of lives,” the statement quoted the Country Director as saying.
“Our mandate is to promote peace and secure conditions for all Nigerians, and the resolution of these conflicts is paramount to achieving this goal.

“We call upon all relevant stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and conflict resolution, guided by the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
“By adhering to the principles, we can foster an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration, which are essential for sustainable peace and development,” the statement further said.
The statement emphasised that peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, and it is the collective responsibility of leaders and citizens alike to work towards a harmonious and secure society.

The CD appealed to all parties involved to prioritize the welfare of the people, uphold human rights, and commit to resolving differences through peaceful means, adding that the future of our nation depends on our ability to come together and create a lasting solution for the benefit of all.
“The commission is dedicated to promoting peace, security, and human rights in Nigeria. Our mission is to advocate for justice, support conflict resolution, and work towards a society where all individuals can live free from fear and oppression,” the statement added.
