The Zamfara Indigenes Enlightenment Forum (ZIEF) has called on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive actions against foreign interference in Nigeria’s domestic affairs.
The call is contained in a statement issued by Alhaji Tanimu Abdullahi, the state coordinator of the Zamfara Indigenes Enlightenment Forum (ZIEF).

The statement called for a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for displaying foreign flags during the protest, empathizing that such actions should not be allowed to go unpunished.
It further called for renewed efforts to promote unity and patriotism among all citizens, advocating for the need to ride on national integrity to address our collective issues.

According to the statement, the sovereignty of a nation is its most treasured asset which enables it to govern and shape its own future without external intrusion. However, the coalition of civil society groups in Zamfara State, under the umbrella of ZIEF had observed foreign interference by foreign governments and their agents in Nigeria’s domestic affairs.
“This issue is crucial and is of national significance, hence, the need for the federal government to take decisive action against foreign interference in our internal affairs. ZIEF is therefore advocating for a strong and unified response to protect Nigeria’s autonomy and uphold the integrity of our democratic processes. Addressing such foreign influences is essential to preserving our national stability, ensuring that Nigeria’s decisions and policies remain in the hands of its people.
“ZIEF strongly condemned the display of foreign flags by a segment of protesters during the recent nationwide peaceful protest…This act does not only undermines the unity and sovereignty of Nigeria but also raises serious questions about the motives and affiliations of those involved.

The forum, therefore, urged the federal government to take decisive action against those responsible for this provocative, unpatriotic and divisive action with a view to preventing future occurrence.
The forum noted that while the right to peaceful protest is fundamental to the consolidation of democratic governance, the display of foreign symbols in this context is a flagrant violation of the nation’s laws, national unity and patriotism, noting that “such unpatriotic actions can erode the trust between citizens and the government…”
