Group Declares 1st October As Nationwide Protest Day For National Survival

Date:

The Nigeria Patriotic Front Movement (NPFM), has declared October 1, 2024 as National Protest Day for National Survival

This is contained in a statement by the National chairman of the group, Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu, a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Thursday night.

According to the statement, the protest which will be carried out nationwide, will be peaceful and for one day.

“The protest will be peaceful and will last for a day, making it a warning for the government to speedily address the cost of living crisis before all hell breaks loose in the country. This is time for statesmanship and not brinkmanship.

“This move is a response to the growing economic pains being influenced on the people by the Tinubu regime”, Daudu said.

He continued, “Our demands are nationally coordinated. You’ll hear the same message from our comrades across the nation. This is a National Survival issue. We call on president Tinubu to think of Nigeria first. That’s the way statesmen behave. They commune with their people to understand the problem and come up with shared solutions. The leader eats last, not first and alone, as is the case with most of ours.”

“We say no to: Food inflation, Petrol overpricing, High cost of governance, High cost of electricity, High interest rates and Insecurity of life and property.

Similarly, we also reject Non payment of pension obligations, Debt slavery for higher education, Starvation wage for workers, Grand corruption and Criminalising protest.

The group further called for the re-nationalisation of the NNPCL and electricity distribution companies adding, “a President who makes peaceful change impossible invites only one solution: People’s Power”.
