The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of seven persons in a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at Kwanar Danja on Hadejia road on Sunday as against the death of 30 people earlier reported by the media.
The Sector Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran, confirmed the number of deaths in a statement, a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Monday.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kano State Sector Command regrets to announce a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today, 8th February 2026, at about 0833hrs along Hadejia Road, Kwannar Danja.
“The Command received a distress call at 0835hrs, and a rescue team arrived at the scene by 0840hrs, achieving a response time of five minutes”, the statement said.
Labaran said preliminary investigation revealed that the crash involved one commercial vehicle, a DAF trailer with registration number KTG 467 YG.
“A total of 105 persons were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, 7 persons lost their lives, while 70 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries (55 males and 15 females),” statement said.
He added that the suspected cause of the crash was over-speeding and loss of control, compounded by the dangerous practice of mixing goods with passengers.

“The crash was classified as a single-vehicle fatal crash. The road condition was observed to be good, and no items were recovered at the scene.
“The injured victims were promptly evacuated to four hospitals as follows:
Sir Sunusi Specialist Hospital, Kano: 24 victims (17 males, 7 females)
Gezawa General Hospital: 24 victims (16 males, 8 females) Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital: 20 victims (20 males) and Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Nasarawa: 7 victims (5 males, 2 females)
While commiserating with the families of the deceased and wishing the injured a speedy recovery, the Corps strongly warned motorists, especially commercial drivers, against over-speeding, reckless driving, and the illegal conveyance of passengers in goods vehicles, as these unsafe practices continued to result in avoidable loss of lives.

The Corps advised members of the public to remain safety-conscious and comply strictly with traffic regulations to safeguard lives and property.
Recall that several media organizations had earlier reported the death of 30 people in the accident.
