Forum of Nigeria Polytechnics Alumni Associations mourn death of National President

Date:

The Forum of Nigeria Polytechnics Alumni Associations has expressed deep shock over the tragic death of its National President, Abba Anas Adamu, who reportedly lost his life in the hands of kidnappers along the Kaduna–Abuja Road a few days ago.

The heartbreaking news has left members of the polytechnic alumni community across the country devastated and grieving over the painful loss of a respected leader, mentor, and unifying figure.

This is contained in a statement on Tuesday signed by the National Vice President, North and National Secretary, Pastor Enoch Opaleke and Nze Henry Chukwuka Nnebs respectively.

“As the pioneer elected National President of FONPAA, he played a historic role in fostering unity, cooperation, and institutional growth among polytechnic alumni associations across Nigeria. His commitment to the advancement of polytechnic education and alumni development remained unwavering until his final moments,” the statement said.

According to the statement, Anas Adamu had equally played a pivotal role in the formation and development of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics in Nigeria, contributing immensely to the welfare of polytechnic lecturers and the advancement of technical education in the country.

In addition to his remarkable contributions within the alumni community, he served meritoriously as Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, Yobe State, between 2013 and 2015, where he contributed significantly to academic growth, institutional stability, and educational excellence.

He was also the immediate past President of the Kaduna Polytechnic Alumni Association, where he rendered selfless and impactful service toward strengthening alumni unity and institutional development.

Adamu also maintained an outstanding record in public service and politics. He served as Chairman of Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State from 1997 to 2000 and later as Commissioner in the Jigawa State Ministries of Education and Environment between 2000 and 2002.

He subsequently represented the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011, earning national recognition for his leadership as Chairman of the Integrity Group, a platform credited with helping to restore stability during a critical moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Until his death, he was an aspirant for the Governorship of Jigawa State under the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, driven by his passion for good governance, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

His tragic death represents a monumental loss not only to his family and close associates, but also to the entire Nigerian polytechnic community, the political landscape of Jigawa State, and the nation at large. He was widely respected for his humility, visionary leadership, dedication to service, and unwavering commitment to national progress.

The Forum extends its heartfelt condolences to the deceased family, the Kaduna Polytechnic Alumni Association, friends, political associates, and the entire polytechnic alumni community across Nigeria during this painful and difficult period.

“We pray that Almighty God forgives his shortcomings, grants his soul eternal rest, and gives all those he left behind the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
