Five political thugs killed during rival clash in Kano

Date:

At least five political thugs including one notorious “Ribadu” lost their lives on Tuesday in Kano following a clash between two rival groups in the ancient city.

The thugs who stormed the venue of the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, were said to have clashed after the ceremony while returning to their various destinations in the town.

It was gathered that some of the miscreants, who were in thousands, stormed the city with assorted weapons from the 44 local government areas of state in order to attend the grand ceremony.

A resident of Dandago area in Gwale local government areas, Malam Hayatu Mohammed told our reporter on Wednesday that three political thugs including Ribadu were killed by a rival group.

“Three thugs, all residents of Dandago including a notorious Ribadu lost their lives during the clash.

“I saw a number of them after returning from the burial of their deceased members,” he said.

Another resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said no fewer than five political thugs lost their lives during the clash in the city.

He said many residents returning from the Kantian Kwari marker along mandawari road around 6pm on Tuesday, were forced to take another road to avoid possible attack by the miscreants who took over the entire road.

Effort to contact the Public Relations officer of the State command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna proved abortive as he did not respond to the several phone calls from the Punch.

Similarly, a Whatsapp message sent to him was not replied to as of the time of filing this report.

Recall that on Monday last week, some youths suspected to be political thugs launched an attack on the popular mobile phone market at Farm Center in Kano metropolis, causing pandemonium among traders and customers.

The hoodlums were said to have stormed the market in broad daylight, assaulting people and wielding dangerous weapons to intimidate victims.

No fewer than six suspects were arrested by the State Police Command over the Monday attack on the popular mobile phone market.
