A chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Rabi’u Suleiman Bichi, has expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu is on course for a landslide victory in Kano in 2027 due to the unprecedented consolidation of the APC political structure in the state.
Bichi, who is the Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, made the remark while speaking with newsmen on Friday.
He explained that the party’s major blocs — from the Ganduje legacy structure to the National Assembly caucus led by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and recent high-profile defectors from the PDP and NNPP — have all united behind Tinubu’s sole candidacy.
“Tinubu will win Kano by a landslide in 2027 because the political arithmetic that defined 2023 has been upended. That level of elite consensus was absent in 2023 and gives the APC unmatched reach across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
“The public fundraising of N50 million to offset half the President’s nomination forms further demonstrates a mobilisation capacity the opposition cannot match,” he said.
Bichi, who was the 2023 APC Campaign Director General for Tinubu in Kano, said the President’s delivery on federal projects and appointments has realigned grassroots sentiment.
He added: “From the Kano-Maradi rail line to expanded irrigation under the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin, and the inclusion of Kano indigenes in strategic federal roles, people see a President who keeps faith with the state,” Bichi noted.
“With Governor Yusuf’s defection bringing state and federal structures under one roof, Tinubu enters 2027 with both incumbency advantages and a merged political machine. In Kano’s electoral history, that combination has always produced a landslide.”
Recall that on Thursday stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The decision was reached at an elaborate meeting held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano — the first of its kind since Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection.
The Managing Director of the HJRBDA, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, moved the motion for Tinubu’s adoption. It was seconded by former Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.
Although President Tinubu has already picked his expression of interest and nomination forms for the APC ticket, the stakeholders demonstrated support by raising N50 million to offset 50 percent of the N100 million cost.
During the meeting, Governor Yusuf conveyed the President’s message urging unity in the Kano chapter of the party. Tinubu also advised that candidates should emerge by consensus, with primaries only where compromise fails.
Other stakeholders present during the meeting included immediate past APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar; former Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo; and members of the National Assembly. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau were represented.
