The Dawanau International Grains Market in Kano State has taken adequate measures to tackle the menace of food adulteration, vowing to sanction perpetrators to protect the market’s reputation.
The President of the Market, Alhaji Muntaka Isa stated this while addressing journalists during an inspection visit on Wednesday.

He said the decision followed the rejection of over 50 containers of suspected adulterated products by international customers, which is a damage to the market’s image.
“We shall not fold our arms and watch a few selfish and unpatriotic individuals tarnish the good image and reputation of our market built over the years,” he stated.

The Chairman noted that in a move to address the menace ,the Market Management had set up a committee_ to identify and prosecute culprits ,and sought assistance from government agencies, including Federal Ministries of Trades and Investment, Police Affairs, Health, and Justice.
“We’ve established a Quality Control Committee to work with government agencies and have launched an enlightenment and mobilization campaign with a view to educating traders on the dangers of food adulteration.
Hajiya Fatima Yakubu, CEO Federal Produce Inspection Service, Kano Branch said the agency was working assiduously to ensure that the menace of food adulteration is being addressed .
She decries the high rise of food adulteration among food produce merchants and called for urgent measures to check the ugly trend.

”The way and manner food marchants get involved in food adulteration is very alarming, Iam appealing to food commodity merchants to please as a matter of urgency desist from this negative attitude as the agency will not relent in fighting the ugly trend.“
Yakubu added that strict measures will be adhered to ensure the challenge has been fully addressed.
