Court Remands Horse Rider for alleged Killing of AKTH Staff

Date:

A Magistrate Court in Kano presided over by Mansur Yola has remanded one Usman Abubakar, who allegedly killed one Kamal Umar, a staff of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, (AKTH) while riding a horse at Gyadi-gyadi, along Yan azara in Kano Metropolis.

Abubakar, 20, allegedly committed the offence on 1st September 2022.

When the case came up before the court for arraignment, Barrister Aminu Kawu, Principal State Counsel from Kano State Ministry for Justice, said the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain an offence of such nature.

He similarly prayed the court to adjourn the case, pending when the office of Attorney General Kano State will provide legal advice.

The prosecution counsel said the offence contravened section 222 sub 7 of Penal Code Law.

Consequently, Magistrate Mansur Yola adjourned the case until 27th October 2022, for mention.

However, speaking to Justice to newsmen after the court session, Hajiya Asma’u Abdulkadir, a mother of the deceased, said she was in court to seek justice over the alleged killing of her breadwinner.

She called on the Kano State Government and other security agencies to ban the unnecessary riding of horses within the metropolis.

She maintained that the number of victims being killed by horse riders in Kano is absolutely alarming.
