“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” according to the statement released on the university’s weekly official bulletin.
According to the university’s official bulletin, dated Friday, 20th March 2026, the committee’s report uncovered significant discrepancies in the credentials presented by the affected students at the time of their admission.
The university management stated that the falsification constitutes a severe breach of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the University’s General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR). Under these regulations, the penalty for such academic dishonesty is outright expulsion.
The list of affected students spans various departments and levels, highlighting a broad effort by the institution to sanitize its academic records.

In a separate but equally firm move, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a student of the Department of Civil Engineering (Registration Number: ENG/18/CIV/00065).
Sani was expelled for engaging in physical violence against invigilators during the conduct of an examination.
The university noted that his actions disrupted the smooth conduct of the exercise and violated the same GEAR regulations regarding student conduct and discipline.
The management reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity.
