The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has advised Imams in the state to shun partisanship while delivering sermons.
Governor Yusuf gave the advice during a meeting with Imams of Central Mosques from the 44 local government areas of the state.

He said rather than engaging in partisan politics they should start preaching to politicians on the need to fulfill their campaign promises with a view to providing the dividend of democracy.
“As religious leaders, you should shun partisan politics in your sermons instead you should preach to politicians on what they are supposed to do to better the lot of the electorate.

“You are equally expected to enlighten the youth on dangers associated with drug abuse and what Islam said about the menace and other social vices.
The Governor, who expressed serious concern on the rate of drug abuse among Kano youths, said the government would go after dealers of illicit drugs in the state as part of renewed effort to check their abuse among the youth.
“Our major problem is the dealers of illicit drugs that is the reason why we must go after them if we must check drug abuse among our youths,” he said.

He further charged the religious leaders to continue to enlighten grains traders and dealers on the need to reduce their prices as the Ramadan is fast approaching.
He said the state government had concluded arrangement to distribute rice and maize to the residents and called on other well-to-do individuals in the state to support the poor especially during this Ramadan period so as to ameliorate their sufferings.
