Fraud: EFCC, MATAN partner to safeguard Kano traders

Kano zonal command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) is to join forces with Market Traders Association of Nigeria, (MATAN), Kano chapter to safeguard the business community and investors from falling prey to fraudsters.

The Zonal Commander of EFCC, Faruk Dogon Daji dropped the hint when members of the association led by its Chairman Alhaji Abba Aminu Imam paid a courtesy visit to the commission’s office in Kano.

A statement issued by Media Aide of the association, Mustapha Isah Kwaru, hinted that, Dogon Daji, was represented at the event by the Deputy Zonal Commander, Mr. Micheal Nzekwe.

The statement explained that, the zonal commander told MATAN that, the commission is poised to ensure that traders are shielded from attracted by persons involved in fraudulent activities and other financial crimes.

He said the commission’s mandate is geared towards tackling all forms of frauds and other financial crimes in order to protect the trading and financial activities from being hijacked by criminals.

According to him, there is an urgent need for an active and unified collaboration between the association and EFCC in sanitizing trading activities from engulfing into the hands of fraudsters.

He described MATAN as a critically stakeholder in fight against financial crimes.

“Fighting corruption, fraud and financial crimes, is not restricted crusade to government institutions alone. Crucial stakeholders like traders association, are needed to join the vanguard and make it more successful”, the zonal commander said.

“As a commercial centre, Kano is overwhelmed with various financial related crimes. The agency could only realises fruitful results when the association participate actively to champion the success”, he further added

Thus, he noted, EFCC can easily control the ugly trend through support and partnership of market traders.

He implored the association to report any suspicious elements who might sneak into the market areas trying to defraud unsuspecting traders under the guise making quick profit through proxy investment

In his response, Comrade Imam, declared total support of MATAN in the fight against financial crimes.

Towards this end, the chairman advocated for the establishment of a joint working committee between MATAN and EFCC for strong synergy on how best to battle financial crimes related to business activities.

The Chairman, said the association will select some of its members who will work with EFFC operatives to form a strong alliance in the areas of intelligence and reformation sharing.

Alhaji Abba expressed the association’s unalloyed support and cooperation to make commercial activities very clean, inauspicious and devoid of uncertainty.
