The incumbent Deputy Governor of Kano state Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who doubles as the All Progressive Congress Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2024 general elections, is the brain behind the giant strides of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led administration in the agricultural sun-sector in kano state.
Dr. Gawuna, a grassroots politician has served as the commissioner of agriculture in kano for over almost eight years before he resigned his position to contest for governor.
During these years he had exhibited high level of experience in handling the affairs of the ministry of agriculture. His performers in the sub-sector had earned an award of best commissioner of agriculture in all 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
During his stewardship as the commissioner of agriculture, he provided enabling environment for farmers which in turned improved their productivity.
The farmers, under his tenure have enjoyed easy access to funding, quality, and adequate fertilizer as well as other farming implements.
Dr. Gawuna vast expertise and connections worked out for a partnership between the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank on one hand and Kano state on the other.
The partnership gave birth to emergence of laudable agricultural programs including Kano Agro pastoral development project, and Agro-processing productivity enhancement and livelihood improvement support project.
Under these programs thousands of farmers have been trained on various segments of agriculture and after the training agricultural inputs were provided to the beneficiaries.
The Deputy Governors’ commitment also led to the introduction of a special agricultural programs at the largest grains market in sub-Sahara Africa, popularly known as Dawanau which improved the quality and reservation process to zero rejection during the exportation of commodities.
Gawuna’s tireless efforts in transformation of agricultural sun-sector in Kano state would not be overemphasized, as many women farmers and youths were trained and empowered in various fields of Agriculture.
While some were trained in poultry, fishing, and dairy, a total of 1,700 youths and women were empowered under the Agricultural sector.
Also a total of 6857 males and 2,000 women were trained in various aspect of farming during Gawuna’s tenure as the commissioner of agriculture.
Dr Gawuna had also connected Kano farmers with many opportunities that resulted to huge success in the sector.
Under Gawuna’s tenure as commissioner of agriculture, Kano has witnessed many projects including APPEALS and KSADP under which dozens of farmers were trained in mechanized farming.
Wake Dan Wuri as he fondly called, Gawuna as governorship candidate needs not be reintroduced to the electorates.
This is because for the past 20 years, Dr. Gawuna has been rendering selfless services to the people of the state in different capacities.
Dr.Gawuna is an experienced administrator and a versatile leader in all aspects of governance.
