APC holds parallel congresses in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has conducted parallel congresses in Kano following an internal crisis that rocked the party few weeks to the conduct of the congress.

While Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led faction of the congress produced Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas as chairman the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led congress produced Alhaji Haruna Ahmadu Zago as chairman.

Daily Telescope observed that while the Shekarau-led congress was held at Zanguza along Gwarzo Road, that of Ganduje faction was conducted at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium.

Daily Telescope reports that the Shekarau-led faction of the party had the support of Senator Barau Jibrin, three House of Representatives members; Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Haruna Isa Dederi and Sha’aban Sharada.

Our reporter gathered that heavily armed policemen were earlier deployed to the Sani Abacha Youth Center, the initial venue for the conduct of the congress set aside by the Shekarau-led team.

It was gathered that anticipated of government’s plan to disrupt the exercise, the Shekarau team shifted the congress to Zanguza Town.

Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim, an APC supporter siding with Shekarau-led team confirmed that the policemen threw canisters of teargas at the APC supporters at Sani Abacha Youth Center in their quest to disperse them.

He said: “I believe the police acted on the orders of the state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje being the chief security officer. Their aim is to disrupt our congress not knowing that we have a plan B and we thanked Allah for the successful conduct of the congress.

“We are in a democratic regime and everyone is entitle to his opinion. At the end of it all, the truth will speak for itself. We must allow democracy to be practiced according to its detects. We must not allow single person to manipulate the affairs of the party for his selfish interest.”

Daily Telescope reliably gathered that hundreds of Senator Shekarau-led supporters who converged at Sani Abacha Youth Centre were later dispersed by the armed policemen deployed to the venue of the Congress.

Speaking shortly after he casted his vote at Sani Abacha Indoor stadium, Governor Ganduje described the Shekarau-led congress as illegal.

Ganduje said that tthe congress conducted at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium is the only congress recognized by the party’s national headquarters and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor described the former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau and other members of his team as  ‘disgruntled elements of the party in Kano’.

The congress had in attendance member representing Dawakin Tofa, Tofa and Rimingado in the House of Representatives Tijjani Abdulkadri Jobe , Alhaji Shehu Dalhatu, Chairman Buhari Support Organisation and other stakeholders from the 44 local government area.

In his acceptance speech, Haruna Zago  promised to carry all members along and work towards the party success in the 2023 elections.

Similarly,  a chairmanship aspirant of the party who withdraw his ambition to support Ahamadu Haruna zago,  Sharif Baban Lungu said the unity and success of the party were part of the reasons for his withdrawal.

He assured members that this is the right leadership for members of APC in Kano.
