The Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate operations for alleged possession of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs.
The arrests followed intelligence-led patrols and raids carried out by operatives of the command in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on sustained visibility policing.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, said two of the suspects were arrested on January 25, 2026, at about 3pm by officers attached to the Fagge Police Division.
Kiyawa said the officers, while on surveillance patrol at Triumph Roundabout, intercepted a tricycle conveying two suspected sacks.
“Upon search, 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa were recovered,” the statement read.
The suspects were identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both males from Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.

In another operation, the command’s Rapid Response Team, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, conducted raids on identified black spots across the Kano metropolis on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25pm.
The operation led to the arrest of two other suspects, Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25.
The police said items recovered from them included 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solution, half a roll of dried leaves believed to be cannabis sativa, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally known as “Suck and Die”.
Commending the operatives involved, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents to support security efforts across the state.
“The command remains committed to combating drug trafficking and abuse, and we will continue to take decisive action against criminal elements threatening public safety,” Bakori said.

He further called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
The police command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order in Kano State and assured residents of sustained operations to ensure a safe and secure environment.
